As a constituent, I have witnessed firsthand the struggles faced by many members of our community who are living paycheck to paycheck, facing uncertainty about their financial future. Guaranteeing a basic income would provide much-needed stability and security to countless individuals and families, including myself. Personally, the impact of guaranteed income on my livelihood would be significant. It would alleviate the constant stress of making ends meet, allowing me to focus on personal and professional growth rather than worrying about financial survival. Moreover, it would foster a more resilient and inclusive local economy, benefitting us all.
And so, I am writing to urge your support for economic equity initiatives that will empower New Jersey residents and boost the local and state economies.
The solutions to reduce the number of New Jersey residents dealing with economic challenges and intergenerational poverty are clear. We need to put money into the pockets of New Jersey residents. Research shows that just $300 per month would lift 40% of children out of poverty. When we expanded the federal Child Tax Credit during the COVID-19 pandemic, child poverty was reduced by almost 50%!
I am calling on you to support economic equity initiatives that put more money into the pockets of New Jersey residents by:
- Increasing the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).
- Increasing and expanding the Child Tax Credit.
- Implementing Baby Bonds to support the education of the next generation.
- Implementing Guaranteed Income programs to support vulnerable populations.
- Eliminating burdensome red tape and restoring the dignity and security of hardworking New Jersey individuals and families.
